Education

As society changes, so does the amount and kind of information kids need to learn. Public education exists to ensure that they can learn it from people who have experienced the world. Yet, a generation still can't read because of a pandemic, phones in schools are wrecking focus and socialization, and AI is replacing thinking instead of supporting it. All the while, states are trying to funnel public money into private schools with no accountability, and the Department of Education has been dismantled by people who don't believe in public education in the first place.

Transparency

Public money must come with public obligations. If a school receives taxpayer funding, families deserve to know how it's spent and whether it's working. The same goes for AI in the classroom. Parents and teachers should know when and how it's being used.

Efficiency

We need to adapt to how the world has changed. That means integrating AI the right way, as a tool that personalizes learning, not a shortcut that replaces it. It means getting phones out of classrooms. And it means connecting public education to real skills and real jobs.

Affordability

A high-quality public education should be free and available to everyone. When we divert public funds to private schools with no accountability, we weaken the system that's supposed to serve everyone. Investing in public schools is the foundation for everything else.

My Plan

  • Require any school receiving public funds to accept all students and meet the same standards as public schools
  • Incentivize States to ban phones bell to bell
  • Invest in AI literacy so students learn to use AI as a tool, not a crutch
  • Support child-safe AI tutoring tools that help personalize learning
  • Protect the Department of Education from politically-motivated dismantling
  • Expand career and technical education, connecting students to real jobs
